Andrea Zanella Presents the Vision Behind MAGIC-6G
In this video, Andrea Zanella, Full Professor at the University of Padova and coordinator of the MAGIC-6G project, introduces a new vision for future communication networks.
Zanella explains why 6G systems should move beyond the traditional concept of networks as simple pipelines for transferring data. Instead, communication technologies should understand the purpose of an application and optimise their operations around the result it needs to achieve.
This is the principle behind Goal-Oriented Networking, the innovative approach explored by MAGIC-6G. The project aims to connect network intelligence with application goals through semantic representations and AI-native orchestration.
Virtual Knowledge and Agent Layers will enable network nodes and intelligent application agents to coordinate dynamically, making future services more scalable, secure and sustainable.
MAGIC-6G will also explore the joint optimisation of communication, computation and control, while integrating sustainability, safety and security into the network architecture.
These technologies will be evaluated through realistic use cases, including environmental digital twins, autonomous industrial robots and collaborative immersive XR education.
Coordinated by the University of Padua, the project brings together a multidisciplinary European consortium of academic and industrial partners.
